The aim of the project is to use results from chemical analysis of wide-spaced overbank- and delta sediments.

The three major resulting aspects of the project are to:

• Determine the natural global distribution of various chemical elements and compounds and the present state of pollution in the surface environment.
• Delineate areas and geochemical provinces especially enriched in elements of economical importance.
• Provide data on the regional distribution of compounds that are linked to human and animal health.
